Six more sleeps to go, and school is back in!

I know from recent outings, that the school holidays are starting to wear a little thin. The ‘I can’t wait for school to start again’ being silently channelled from harassed and most probably by this stage, broke parents, to their children, is to observers, quite deafening. I feel your pain – I can clearly remember those days, although I didn’t silently channel such thoughts, I shouted them for the whole world to hear!!
Having said that, I did really love school holidays, mostly. So I decided to share with you, 10 things to remind you why school holidays are the best! They are in no particular order, although I have a feeling, number 10 could quite possibly be number 1 on a lot of lists.
Ten Things I Loved About School Holidays
- No stress about ways to keep school lunches edible as they linger for hours, abandoned in a lunch box, in the school bag, in the sun.
- No uniforms – or missing socks, or missing shoes.
- No frantic searches for missing library books, the very minute you are about to jump into the car.
- No remembering whether Sports Day has been shifted to another day, just for this week, or was it for the remainder of the term?
- No fighting the school traffic and catching the same smugness of that parent who has already secured her park at the front of the queue, again! Seriously, go home during the day!
- No worries about your child’s safety, and questioning yourself would it really be okay if you had a quiet, stern word to the most annoying child who constantly causes your child grief?
- A break from creative writing, as you carefully compose those notes as to why your child is not going swimming this week.
- No newsletters, listing the important upcoming school events, the meetings you must attend, and the parenting skills you need to work on.
- No mad dashes to the classroom door to have a quick chat with your child’s teacher, only to find you are tenth in line, and already late for work. And of course everyone’s favourite
- NO HOMEWORK – WOOHOO!!
But what hasn’t made the list, is the real reason I loved holidays – I got to have my kids back, away from the chaos of school. We could make our own rules, do our own thing, in our own time, and enjoy being together. What’s not to love?
Until next time,
Best wishes
Katrina
